Wall Pit Project Plan Bundle | Advanced Modular Cooking System Fabrication Project
Challenge advanced welding and fabrication students with this Wall Pit Project Plan Bundle. This project guides students through building a complete modular wall-mounted cooking system with a CNC-cut wall plate, dual vertical mounting rails, removable grill surfaces, a side tray, and a bottom plate. Students fabricate multiple welded components that hang and function together as one complete system.
Designed for Agricultural Mechanics, Welding, Metal Fabrication, CTE, and advanced shop programs, this project reinforces layout, CNC plasma cutting, MIG welding, grinding, fabrication fit-up, modular design, and component alignment. Estimated build time is 4–6 class periods.

Project Skills Covered
Students will practice:
- Reading multi-sheet fabrication drawings
- CNC plasma cutting wall plate and rail components
- Cutting 1" × 1" and 2" × 2" angle parts
- Cutting 45° frame corners
- Building rectangular grill and tray frames
- Installing expanded metal cooking surfaces
- Welding pivots, hooks, rails, and modular components
- Checking square, rail spacing, alignment, and fit-up
- Grinding and finishing a multi-part welded project
Materials Used
This project uses 3/16" steel plate, 1" × 1" angle or square tubing, 2" × 2" angle, expanded metal, and ½" round bar. The instructions list approximately 32" × 61" of steel plate, 200 inches of 1" × 1" material, 110 inches of 2" × 2" angle, 1000 square inches of expanded metal, and 10 inches of ½" round bar.
Drawing Details
The drawing packet includes the full Wall Pit assembly, labeled part callouts, wall plate layout, vertical rail design, a 29" × 18" grill, a 29" × 10" grill, bottom plate details, and a removable side tray. The plans also show expanded metal sizing, rail geometry, hanger details, and modular fit-up references.
Perfect For
This project is ideal for advanced students who are ready for a larger, multi-component fabrication challenge. The Wall Pit requires accurate cutting, clean weld sequencing, square frame construction, and careful alignment so each removable part hangs properly on the wall-mounted rail system.
Digital download only. No physical product will be shipped. DXF file included.
